Mixing bowls
Fine mesh strainer
Cooling rack

Ingredients:
– 1 cup of sugar
– 6 large eggs
– 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
– 12 oz evaporated milk
– 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. In a saucepan, melt 1 cup of sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until it turns into a golden caramel.

3. Quickly pour the caramel into a baking dish, tilting the dish to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.

4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

5. Pour the egg mixture through a fine mesh strainer into the caramel-coated baking dish to remove any lumps.

6. Place the baking dish in a larger pan filled with hot water, creating a water bath.

7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

8. Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool on a cooling rack. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

9. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, invert it onto a serving plate, and let the caramel sauce drizzle over the top.

Tips and Suggestions:
– For a richer flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of rum or brandy to the custard mixture.
– You can also infuse the milk with a cinnamon stick or citrus peels for additional aroma.
– For a lighter version, use low-fat milk instead of full-fat versions.

Serving Suggestions:
– Serve chilled as a standalone dessert.
