Appliances and Special Utensils

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (preferably 80/20 blend)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 8 small flour tortillas
  • 8 slices of cheddar or American cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup diced onions
  • Pickles (optional)
  • Burger sauce (optional: mix mayo, ketchup, and mustard)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Beef Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until well combined.

  2. Form Beef Balls: Divide the beef mixture into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.

  3. Preheat Skillet: Heat the cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and let it heat until shimmering.

  4. Smash Burgers: Place a beef ball onto the skillet. Using a spatula, press down firmly to flatten the beef into a thin patty. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the edges are crispy and browned.

  5. Flip and Add Cheese: Carefully flip the patty using the spatula. Immediately place a slice of cheese on top of the patty. Let it cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patty is cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside. Repeat with the remaining beef balls.

  6. Warm Tortillas: In the same skillet, briefly warm the flour tortillas for about 30 seconds on each side.

  7. Assemble Tacos: Place a cheese-topped burger patty on each warm tortilla. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and diced onions. Add pickles and burger sauce if desired.

  8. Serve: Fold the tortillas over the fillings and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious Smash Burger Tacos!
